With
a history dating back
more than 2700 years,
the city of Rome remains
unprecedented in the
world as a centre of
art, culture, religion
and education. The capital
of Italy, Rome is also
called the Eternal City
for its rich heritage
alive. Located on the
banks of the Tiber,
Rome occupies an area
of 580 square kilometers
and is home to more
than 2 million people.
A meeting point of tradition
and modernity, Rome
is one of the most popular
tourist destinations
around the world. The
city has many historic
buildings, museums,
monuments and other
places of historic interest.
Some of the most famous
historical attractions
of Rome are Colosseum,
the Pantheon, St. Peter’s
Basilica, Capitol, Arch
of Constantine, Piazza
Navona, Campo de' Fiori
etc.
Located in the heart
of the Centro Storico
side of the Piazza Farnese
and a short walk from
Piazza Navona, Campo
de 'Fiori is a rectangular
square which literally
means the field of flowers.
The Campo de 'Fiori
has been developed for
the first time in the
15th century by Pope
Boniface IX, who built
the first church in
the region. Although
the region began growing
in importance since
then, the architectural
place has never been
formalized. Instead,
the Campo de 'Fiori
has always been a centre
of shopping and culture
and is home to a number
of colorful markets
and restaurants. In
the morning, the Campo
de 'Fiori has a flower
market and vegetables
in the afternoon and
evening, the Place is
supported by bars and
restaurants. In the
center of Campo de 'Fiori
is raised a statue to
the memory of Giordano
Bruno, a philosopher
who was burned at the
stake in 1600 for heresy
against the Catholic
Church.
