A meeting point of tradition and modernity, Rome is one of the most popular tourist destinations around the world. The city has many historic buildings, museums, monuments and other places of historic interest. Some of the most famous historical attractions of Rome are Colosseum, the Pantheon, St. Peter’s Basilica, Capitol, Arch of Constantine, Piazza Navona, etc. Domus Aurea.

Built in the heart of ancient Rome by the Roman Emperor Nero after the great fire, the Domus Aurea is a large villa landscape portico, which literally means the Maison d'Or. Built on an artificially created landscape, the Domus Aurea is a part villa of the Emperor Nero, who had 300 rooms, but not the bedrooms. Made of brick and concrete, the Domus Aurea is a delicately decorated palace, which had large gold leaf designs, stucco ceilings decorated with semi-precious stones and ivory veneer, frescoes and walls. A huge 35.5-metre high bronze statue of Nero was outside the Domus Aurea, while the surrounding lands were covered by groves of trees, pastures with cattle, vineyards and an artificial lake.

The building lost its grandeur shortly after the fall of Nero, when stripped of its successor the construction of its marble, jewelry and ivory in a decade. Today, the Domus Aurea is a testament to the wealth, opulence and luxury of ancient Romans and attracts visitors all year round.
