During
the period when Constantine
I ruled, the bishop of Rome
called the Pope, acquired political
and religious strength and the
transformation of Rome as the
hub of the Catholic Church took
place.
In the Middle Ages, Rome was
looted by Germanic barbarians
causing much damage to the city
and significantly reducing its
population.
Rome developed significantly
after the Second World War with
Italy stimulating economic growth,
post-war reconstruction and
modernization. It turned out
to be a city plugged into the
1950s and early 1960s and continued
its triumphal march. |
